Yarn Splurge.

Yoi...
I've spent waaaay too much on yarn in the past week. I'm supposed to be saving for India, but I'm addicted... Here is the 20 Questions from AA, for the Yarn Addict.

1. Do you lose time from work due to SEX? yes.
2. Is SEX making your home life unhappy? yes. (The Boi keeps telling me off!)
3. Do you shop because you are shy with other people? no.
4. Is your stash affecting your reputation? yes. People think i'm weird.
5. Have you ever felt remorse after a SEX? yes
6. Have you gotten into financial difficulties as a result of SEX? yes
7. Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when shopping? One word. Spotlight.
8. Does your shopping make you careless of your family's welfare? no.
9. Has your ambition decreased since shopping? yes.
10. Do you crave yarn at a definite time of day? yes.
11. Do you want yarn the next morning? yes.
12. Does thinking about WIPs cause you to have difficulty in sleeping? Last night, so yes.
13. Has your efficiency decreased since knitting? not sure
14. Is SEX jeopardizing your job or business? not sure
15. Do you shop for yarn to escape from worries or trouble? yes.
16. Do you shop alone? yes.
17. Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of SEX? I forget stuff, like "I'm on a budget".
18. Has your physician ever treated you for a SEX-related injury? no.
19. Do you SEX to increase your stash, to up your self-confidence? not sure.
20. Have you ever been to a hospital or institution on account of yarn shopping? no.

If you have answered YES to any one of the questions, there is a definite warning that you may be an Yarn Addict.
If you have answered YES to any two, the chances are that you are an Yarn Addict.
If you have answered YES to three or more, you are definitely an Yarn Addit.

I scored 13/20. Not sure if I should be proud or sad....

So what did I buy?
20 balls of Laines Du Nord Medea in Black - 10 ply, 40% alpaca, 40% merino, 20% acrylic
1 skein each of Grignasco Bambi in pale teal and camel to make Eunny's Endpaper Mitts
1 skein of Patonyle in black to make the Motorcycle Chica gloves in the latest Interweave
10 balls of Merino Supreme in Black (what CANT i use it for! my fav yarn) - currently working on Dashing from Knitty
2 balls of Cleckheaton Tapestry in blue/grey/beige mix - that is for a birthday present though.
1 ball of Filatura Di Crosa Zara in dull burnt orange - another pair of Fetching for an Ashram person.

I've spent over $150! Not including the DPNs I bought either. I'm off to Melbourne next week, and must resist the lure of Marta's....

Posting for the Disco Knitter

here is my tag....

1: I have lived in Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane, Townsville, Perth and Sydney. I've moved 12 times! (You think i'd have it down pat by now...)

2: My favourite colours are apply-green or teal green. But i never wear them. My ultimate favourite colour combo is Malabrigo in Applewood - pale pink, ivory and tinge of green.

3: Sometimes I dress up like a 50's TV housewife (aprons, pearls, stockings and heels) to do the housework.

4: I take my knitting with me everywhere. Literally. The movies, the pub, friend's house. You never know when you might have some spare time to knit.

5: I dont like pumpkin or beetroot. I'll pick it out of my food - its yuck.

6: I like Enya. Yup, the Le Tigre fan-grrl also likes Enya.

7: I have an Advanced Certificate in Rock and Roll dancing (my teachers were certified). One of the times when I miss my ex-girlfriend is when I want to go dancing.... The Bois not exactly co-ordinated (i'm not really co-ordinated either, but he makes me look good hehehehe). Oh, and i can do some of the hard tricks too, if my partners strong enough to lift me ;)....

8: I came out when i was 19, and my sister outed me to my parents on Xmas day (she was drunk). The only person I worried about was my nan - we're very close and I didnt want to lose that. I didnt care what anyone else thought (even my mum and dad). Turns out she was cool, mum was too. Dad had spent years being homophobic, and suddenly realised he had one in the family. We have never really gotten on, and I think it was a big shock. Its a non-issue now.
Coming out for me was rather easy, I just woke up one day and thought, I better tell my family. I knew it was my life and I'm fairly independant - if people freaked out that was there problem not mine.
My cousin Liam (aged 16) introduced me to his friends last year as "This is my lesbian cousin Bec". LOL. But he thinks its pretty cool and asks me for advice on girls.

Best. Shoes. Ever.

Look what just arrived at my work!!!
Shiny. Black. Pink bits. Bows. Mega Heel. Love.

Yes, i wore stripey knee-high socks to work today. Do you know how hard it is to take photos of shoes while you're wearing them? Apologies for the shaky images.

.... and i want to wear them around the office SO BAD! I think people might notice though hehehe...

I have to recommend Ebay seller fashions4fetish, these babies cost me $70 including airmail to Aus, and they took 5 days to get here....

NEXT DAY
OK, i tried them on last night and realised they are the highest pair of shoes i've ever worn. And i can walk in them without looking like a drag queen. Next Hellfire is June 15 - just gotta make an outfit now!

Oh dear....

Museum says dinosaurs 'on Noah's Ark'
Have to wonder about the 50% of the US that thinks the earth was made in 10,000 years. (My psycho-penticostal grandma says that dinosaurs were made by the devil to get us to doubt the Genesis story....sigh....)

I had such a nice weekend - lots of stuff done. Washing, cleaning, more cleaning and some sewing too.
Just about ready to start the heel flap on my lace socks i've designed (i want them for myself, but i think big hoofer feet sizes arnt good for a magazine so i better make them for someone else...).

Went to SSK on saturday, but left early because of one of the fellow knitters there. She cant moderate her voice, and her constant shouting in my ear gave me the worst headache. No one says anything (when shes around), but it makes it painful for the rest of us. Maybe she doesnt realise, maybe i should tell her? Dont know.... Will have to think on that one. If putting up with it makes me resentful and grumpy, then to be honest and true to myself I should tell her, right? Aah, i think my self-help group is making me think about stuff too much.

Later on we went to Tamanas On Top - a really nice Indian restaurant on King St. I'm so over Indian food at the moment, the Boi keeps making me eat at Janani in Homebush (ok, they are cheap. $2.50 for an entree cheap). But Tamana's was really really nice and tasty - not too hot either. The only downfall was the serving sizes were small for what you paid, and one of the waiters spilled an entree on someone and wasnt that helpful about cleaning it up.
I had Aloo Tikki for entree (not as nice as Bikaneer in the city) and Malai Kolfi for mains - yum! The Boi had Lamb Saag (spinach) and he said it was good too.

On Sunday went to the Courthouse SnB, and managed to get 2 of my pals to come as well! Tania had already been before, but Benji hadnt knitted since he was 12! He picked it up again right away... yay! And he wants to learn cables next - straight from garter stitch to cables - excellent.

And then we went and saw Pirates of the C! YAY! PIRATES! Although some of the story line was a but far-fetched, and the scene at the end, with Will, Elizabeth and Capn Barbarossa (the fight scene, where they get......) that was down right silly. I loved it anyway. Had deliciously piratey dreams last night!

YAY!

Attack of the Crazies!!!!

Oh this is my week for the crazy peoples.
Some of you may not be aware, but I am a bona-fid-e crazy magnet. If there is one in a 100m radius, they will be drawn to me. They will sit next to me, lecture me, stare at me, and no matter what I do they wont go away....

Take this morning. Homeless, possibly drunk man, having a conversation with himself - and then spies me on the crowded train platform. Starts to have a conversation with me AND his iPod (why did the homeless man have an iPod?). OK.
Smiled, nodded, backed away.

On the escalator at Coles near Town Hall. Crazy man walks up the escalator to stand next to me, and stares at me.
CM: "What happended to you???!? You're ugly!"
Me: momentary shock
CM: "You looked better from behind!"
Me: "Get fcuked, you fcuking w*nker!"
CM: "I've got bigger b00bs than you...."
Me: "Bigger a$$ too!"

Crazy man continues up the escalator muttering to himself.... off to use his powers for good instead of evil I'm sure....
sigh..... Since it comes in threes, hopefully that was my last crazy encounter for this month.

Knitting Content:
Well, my pal over at Creative Knitting is SCREAMING for patterns. So much so she's asked me for some (thats desperation). So i've dropped most of my projects and started 2 pairs of socks - really easy ones. With the help of Mary Thomas I shall succeed!
I wish I hadnt packed my Harmony Stitch guide because I would love to do some lace ones... I seriously doubt that people would knit my socks, so i think they'll be magazine fillers hehe...

Also thought about homewares - its for the Spring Issue - homewares = spring cleaning! I've started a knitted bathmat using a vintage sheet that I cut into rags and knit up (with other fabrics), and was planning on making some felted baskets. I want to make lids for them too. I worry that it might be a bit Mason-Dixonish, but my pal has assured me she wants to focus on the creative side of knitting, so its all good. (did i say they also pay $75 for accessories patterns? and $150 for garments! sweet!)

The deadline for The Anti-craft is looming too - gotta get my a$$ into gear and finish the socks and dyeing tute I want to submit for them... ARGH! So much knitting, so little time!

Oh, and I want to sew a dress as well. LOL.

Random weirdness...

.....In some random weirdness, i'm on the front counter at work today (we take turns). I just finished serving some guy and show him where to pay. He then comes back with a photocopy in hand.

Him - "Excuse me - do you know Ephesians?"
Me - "In the bible?"
Him - "Yes, this is Ephesians chapter 3, verse blah blah blah blah...."
Me, taking a step back from the counter - "I'm sorry, i'm sooo not interested."
Him - "Ok, i'll just leave this here..."
Me - "No. Really. Dont."

What tha?? I'm at work psycho! Crazy!

And then I spied these shoes!!!! Must. Buy.Shoes....

Last night my Nundle Wool Mill shade cards arrived! So soft~! I couldnt believe how nice and soft their range of 4 ply in 'retro' colours are.
Definately think i'll be orderin some (once my UFO Challenge is up!)

FO: Monkey Socks

YAY! I actually finished these about a week ago, but here goes.

Pattern: Knitty's Monkey (by Cookie)
Yarn: Lornas Laces in Mt Creek

Mods: I went down to a 2.25mm needle as I found the lace pattern too stretchy. This unfortunatly made it quite tight to get on over the heel. I blocked and stretched, and stretched again and they came good. The person I made them for has small feet thank goodness. And she loves them!

The Pattern: Super, Super easy! After 3 repeats or so, the pattern was really easy to remember. Big enjoyment factor as well. Lornas is such a nice yarn, it doesnt even feel like wool. Shame its so expensive, but the grrl I made them for is totally worth it ;). She has hardly taken them off.

More pics!

Well, i managed to take a slighter better photo of my outfit!

DETAILS:
I made a puff skirt, using pattern 4015 from Simplicity. I also added a lining layer (petticoat netting cuts up your stockings) and need to go back and edge the tulle with binding as well. The top petticoat layer has the white lace trim. I did sew white ribbon around the edge of the skirt (about 1 inch from edge).

The top was a black shirt i already owned. I cut the sleeves down, and added white sleeve 'caps' with black ribbon detail. I marked how low i wanted the front to sit, cut off the shirt collar and drafted a sailor one to fit instead. I added black ribbon trim and black/white nautical stars on the back in the corners (need photo).

The cincher was my own - and thats not as tight laced as i wore it out BTW. Too much fun!
.........................................................................................................................

My parcel still hasnt arrived in the UK yet - sent on 27th April. Sigh. I wonder whats up.... I bought my Secret Pal some vanilla lip balm from The Wool Shack, and it came today - along with sock yarn goodness! I got 2 skeins of Jawoll sock in purple/black/white, 2 in black/grey/white and some Opal Cotton sock in pink/blue/green/white. Oh - did i mention I got that because the editortrix of Creative Knitting asked me to knit something? Spring socks it is....

I got 2 weeks to design something - should be no worries.

Look what I got from St Vinnies yesterday (was treating the Boi to a massage and manicure out in Rozelle)

Squee! Isnt it bizarre? Its a vintage laundry hamper thingey, hand embroidered. Dont know what possessed me to get it - i might gift it away. I just couldnt bear to leave it there.

Well the Boi has asked me to put the word out.
Hy's looking for casual or part time work to get some extra money (evil job wont give hym more hours).

If anyone knows of something going, can you please let me know?

Wool Shack Yarn Sale

Just a heads up - they have sock yarn for cheap!

Inqui!!!

YAY!
Bestest time ever!
.
Saturday started with me realising the bottom of the boots i planned to wear was coming off. Trying to find somewhere that sold Aryldite or Liquid Cement, on a saturday morning with no car meant i missed out on Ye Olde Yarn Swappe at the Guild. Big D'oh!!!
.
Went to the set up for coat check at lunch time, and found out I was a supervisor. Too funny!

Ran back home afterwards, had some early dinner, and raced off to the Boi's house to get dressed (my travel buddy lived nearby so, we could go together).

I totally forgot to take a photo, so here is a truly TERRIBLE camera pic.... I'll have to get the Boi to take some better ones.

Outfit consisted of fitted sailor shirt (with cute star patches on the back), waist cincher, poofy skirt (2 layers of tulle with lace edge, lining, and black skirt with white ribbon trim), seamed thigh high stockings and knee high giant boots.

It looked great!!! I got so many compliments!!!

Everyone was really friendly (i got some offers, but my coat check shift *really* interfeared with that), and had a really good time. The coat check shift was manic! The people before us wern't really organised, stuff was mis-numbered (i.e. i checked my leather jacket early on, and when i went to grab it later i couldnt find that number hanger anywhere. I had to do a search for it). I have a small amount of carpet burn on my knees from crawling around looking for stuff on the ground. During one expedition, i looked up and realised that there were all these gay boys looking straight up my skirt - pretty funny.
As coat check queen, all my coat check b!tches called me "ma'am" (their idea, not mine) and I got to boss everyone around and basically be a toppy femme. Sweet.....
I got a lift home with someone at about 5am, showered and crawled into bed. Havent felt that ill in ages, but it was worth it. (Just to give you an idea how sick - knitting was making me feel queasy).

I've heard from one of the SLPA people that they plan on having another one later on this year - fingers crossed!!!

The Boi came home yesterday, it was so good to see him. I've missed him so much!!!

Ahh... a stressful life for me!

Well maybe not me, but my poor Boi.

Hy's such a trooper. The Boi is off looking after his difficult sister in Perth, who's just had a heart attack.
Besides having to run around and literally do everything because she's not physically able, hy's had to deal with her denial of the situation. She's on fat blockers to stop the fat building up in her arteries again, so the doctors have told her now she needs to avoid sugar (she's diabetic). In her head this means = I can eat whatever I like as long as its not sugary, as the pills deal with the fat. She asked the doctors if she could go have Hungry Jacks - her surgery was 5 days ago.

She's had to quit her job and apply for sickness allowance, but still wants to keep her lifestyle, a gym membership and to get her nails done (when she asked the nurses if she could go back to gym next week they were shocked - she cant walk more than 20m without getting breathless).

So the Boi is there, trying get everything in place (i.e. Centrelink allowance, Dept of Housing set up, Salvation Army care, disease management etc), but hys sister doesnt want to think about it. It breaks my heart that hy is trying so hard to help, and its probably just going to collapse when he comes back the Sydney. We changed hys flight to come back this weekend because hy just can't take it anymore. I think I would have stopped trying after a few days, but hys strength of spirit amazes me.

And because i know hy could use it, I booked hym in for a massage and a facial next week. Its funny someone so butch loves to be pampered so much hehe.

In other news, I got my Secret Pal some Knit Picks needles for his final parcel (yeah yeah its not going to be sent for a while, but I like planning) some mini beer cap stitch markers from Etsy seller sunneshine, and some plastic skull stitch markers for moi. I have 2 silk-merino skeins of yarn, one in barley grass from The Knittery, and the other in green/rust from Etsy. And TimTams. Chocolate Mud Love Potion TimTams.
I'm still thinking I should make him something too - maybe a needle roll? Hmm...

Hero dog awarded war medal

I love dogs!! This made me all teary...

A NINE-year-old Jack Russell terrier George is being honoured with a posthumous bravery medal for saving five children from an attack by two pitbulls.

The medal from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) comes after US Vietnam veteran Jerrell Hudman said he was sending his Purple Heart medal to George's owner in New Zealand after hearing of the dog's bravery.

George, who had a heart problem, won fame after defending five children from the pitbulls in the small North Island town of Manaia a week and a half ago.
The two pitbulls rushed at the five children on the street, prompting George to charge the much larger dogs as the children escaped.
The Jack Russell was badly mauled by the two pitbulls and later had to be put down because of his extensive injuries. The two pitbulls were also put down.

The SPCA medal is usually awarded to people for their bravery in defending animals.
"George was a very brave little dog who almost certainly prevented severe injury, if not death, to at least one of the children,'' SPCA chief executive Robyn Kippenberger said.
"It's truly tragic that he paid with his own life for his instinctive act of courage.''

Hudman, 58, of Austin, Texas was a US Marine for 30 years and said he decided to send his Purple Heart to George's owner Alan Gay after reading the news on the Internet because the dog was "a little warrior''.

The Purple Heart is awarded to those killed or injured fighting for the US military.

OMG - talk about a manic weekend.

Busy all day Saturday sewing my outfit for Inquisition, (i'm trying to do a Japanese gothic lolita inspired sailor outfit - i.e. poofy short black skirt with petticoat and lace, waist cincher and a sailor shirt). I was kidding myself thinking a week is going to be enough to make the entire outfit so i'll just use the cincher that I already have.

The trains wern't running all weekend on my line, which involved waiting for half an hour for the rail replacement bus whenever i wanted to go somewhere. The buses were so crowded that I had to stand all the way to Central. Yuk.

Sunday did a heap of running around, and ended the day at the Courthouse SnB. Too bad i forgot to take a photo of the pink n orange chunky baby booties I made for Disco Knitter, they were so cute and she loved them!

Heres a pic of Web-Goddess and me, and the SSK SnB, Newtown last weekend. Apparently we look like we're up to something hehehe.... and i realise I have a cheesy grin!

Other news

Well, now i've calmed down a bit and plotted revenge in my head (haha)....

Lady Linoleum herself (from Monster Crochet, and author of Kooky Crochet) is coming to OZ! YAY!

And Bendigo Mills has a website! Finally!

Lastly, check this out at Amazon - What Would Jesus Eat? its a christian diet book. LOL

No title today

My Bois flown out to Perth for 10 days to look after hys sick sister. And my flatmates are gone til Tuesday so I have the weekend and a bit all to myself. Kinda good and kinda bad.

I had decided I wasnt going to go to Inquisition as Boi wasnt going to be here - but now i've just been asked to volunteer for coat check from 12-3am. Hmm free entry ($99) for that? Sure, OK. I can always leave afterwards. Oh, and I got the offer of a lift there :D. Now i better get to work on my outfit.

I just had the WORST customer i've had in ages. Totally chewed me out. I've only ever dealt with his secretary, and shes nice - but he's trying to insist we dont charge him for something. I questioned why he did the particular thing in the first place when he knew we would charge him and then he got really personal. So then I asked if he wanted to speak to a manager, but he just wanted to continue abusing me. So I hung up on him. I'm still angry and upset about it. I had to tell my boss too. :(. I think I could of handled it better, but he was so rude and they dont pay me enough to cop that. BLAH.

Training and Court

I have to say, my court appearance was tre boring.
I sat in a long corridor with about a dozen other people for 2.5 hours (knitting of course) and then they said i could go home. They may need me another day but they'll let me know.
Good thing - i got the whole day off work (paid by my employer of course!) and I got to knit. I knit on the train to Penrith opposite another lady who has a Filatura De Crosa bag - she must be a knitter i thought! Sure enough, she pulled out a baby jumper and we had companionable silence all the way there hehe...

And then when I was at the court one of the ladies who worked there came and had a chat cos she was a knitter, and another lady came over to show us her crochet - Knitters Represent! LOL.

AND AND Penrith has a great Goth/Punk store on Station St (opp Spotlight). About $20 cheaper than Newtown (they had TUK and Demonia shoes for $100). I did buy something and spend waaaaaay too much. But the top was so cute and they had Tripp brand in XL so why not?

I'm in training all day today, day off tomorro to spend some time with the Boi (he's off to Perth for 10 days after his sister had a heart attack)....
