Score!

Knitter's Almanac by Elizabeth Zimmerman for 3 pounds = $10. New. Including airmail to Australia. Need I say more? hehe...
Got it from my crack/book dealer here....
Also finally got Vegan With A Vengance - been meaning to get that for ages. Best recipes for vegan's i've seen in a looooong time.

Spotted this book for The Boi - Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: 75 Dairy-free Recipes for Cupcakes That Rule. He does love his cupcakes. Might get it for Xmas for him.

The shot was fine (got the Twinrex 2-in-1). The EMLA patches did help a little bit but I could still feel the sting. Only wimpered - I admit I am a wuss.
Talked to my Doc about Gardasil - was concerned the age-limit cut off was fast approaching - she assured me that I could get it when i get back from India, so bring on my EMLA patches again I guess.

Newtown, 7.35pm, 28/08/07. The eclipse was pretty cool - it was funny how many people were just standing on the street corners in Newtown watching....

Goth Knitting was great fun! Twas only 5 of us, but we talked and knitted for ages... I hadnt seen most of the grrls for months and it was so good to catch up. We are still deciding whether to have an official Goth SnB at this Saturday's Under The Blue Moon, but I suggested crashing SSK (heheheheheh!!!).
It should be decided today - its just hard to fit it in around all the different activities that are on.

And I finally finished my Best Friend's Socks. I've promised her some for ages, and finally got my bottom into gear and finished these last night. Gotta post them today.
See the stripes?? I tried really hard to get them indentical, then the yarn itself let me down by having a join near the toe.

In the flatmate front. I spoke to my other flatmate about what was going on, and she got pretty upset. She agreed that he can be unreasonable and grumpy sometimes, but didnt want to lose my friendship (no chance of that!).

Talked to The Boi, and came up with the idea to house hunt in Summer Hill between now and India - if a place comes up that I like, then i'll take it.

Havent spoken to sucky flatmate yet.

Monday, August 27, 2007

You know, some people just suck.

And theres nothing you can do about it.

Gonna have a small rant about my flatmate (he doesnt read my blog). Basically he had a go at me, to The Boi, about how much money I waste etc etc (mainly about yarn). And about how the only reason he's letting me live there is to help me save for the India Trip.

Ran through my finances today and realised that I could do India and rent a place at the same time, although it would mean less spending money.
Another thing to worry about, just what I need.

/end rant.

Knitting Scout Badges

http://www.cast-on.com/?page_id=123

MWAHAHAHA....

Definately aiming for my MacGyver Badge (Level 2)
Here is the most completest list of Tutorials i've seen on the web yet - craft yer hearts out!!!!

I have succumbed to the SwallowTail Shawl from IK Fall 2006 (thanks MissFee and Lara). Like I need another WIP! I'm really suprised at how easy the lace is so far, and more than a little chuffed that I could work off the charts no problem (i've never used charts before).

Here's what I managed this morning on the train...

Its hard to photograph but its one strand of Centolavaggi in orange, and one strand of MCY Rayon Boucle held together (I wound them together on my ball winder). Looks a lot better in real life - its a bit shiny.
Making it for Rishi, the boss of the Ashram where the Boi is. I was trying to use what was in my stash, but i needed the Centolavaggi to give it some body.
.
Now for some weirdness indeed. I was looking at my flickr pics and just noticed it said how many people 'viewed' my photos. Until recently, the most I had was about 15 or so for the peony scarf. Its now sitting at 168 views for my shoes.
Um. Heh. Ok. Might be making that one private; I dont mind foot fetishists, but I prefer to know who they are....

Free Pattern - Varanasi Socks

Well, since Creative Knitting is being ambiguous and I worked damn hard on these socks - the pattern is free, for you!

.
*Varanasi is the holy Hindu city on the Ganga (Ganges). Its believed if you die there, you achieve Moksha - you break the cycle of re-birth and achieve liberation of the soul. Its also one of the oldest continiously habitated places on earth. Why did I name a sock pattern after it? No reason. Getting excited about going there is all!!! (not planning on achieving Moksha though hehe)

fun fun Saturday nite....

Picked up the Dollar and a Half Cardigan I havent touched in a while, half finished the first sleeve (after frogging it) - i forget how quick that is to work up!
Got asked at Hellfire to work at RubberBall 3 next month - they needed an experienced Coat-Grrl to work the door.
Free entry, first shift and some good people already working it convinced me :D. Now I gotta choose ANOTHER outfit to wear there.

I love going out, the only problem is that people remember your outfits. So if you make something really different, they will remember if you have worn it before (i.e. my lolita-sailor outfit for Inqui). The other option is to wear something basic, i.e. black pegged skirt, black corset, heels and stockings, but then its nothing special.
I popped into Gallery Serpentine hoping to find something different (and on sale!) but no avail. Been surfing Lip Service to try and get inspired enough to make something - i kinda like this, or this, or maybe this.
To hard to decide - maybe i'll just throw something together again!

Kool-Aid specials

USA Foods has their expired Kool-Aid on special at the moment - but still good for dyeing!

Yikes!

This is the Shimla Toy Train's tracks at the moment (the train we have to catch to see Joy in Rewalsar). It just met Mr Mudslide:

It happened between Kalka and Shimla, up in the mountains... (see map :) Joy is where the blue marker is...)

Ashram Knucks!

I admit it - I now like Zhivago (boo hiss). It took these gloves to endear its qualities to me (being that its super soft and shiny. Thats it).
The Boi really really likes them (cos they match hys Zhivago beanie and Zhivago scarf, all in the same orange??).

Modelled by my lovely flatmate :)

Well, my self-designed lace socks are finished. Unfortunately I forgot that I have wide feet and made these too small (and short). Blocking did help enormously, but i've decided these are for my sister. I love TOFUtsies! I think the cotton/soy in them doest make them as stretchy as wool socks though. (And how cool is the plastic foot thing?? Op-Shop special!)
.
Also finished a pair of Knucks (from Knitty) in Zhivago - will take some pics soon.

I want to buy a sewing pattern thats discontinued, and because its a Laura Ashley one McCalls wont send it over here to OZ.
Is there anyone willing to be my go-between?? I.e. I'll buy it, get it posted to you, give you $$ and you post it to me??

Reason #63 Why Ravelry Is Great!

Need I say more on the subject? This is what they put up during their upgrades.
ROFL.

And dont forget peeps - 26 August!!!
Fifties Fair Day is here again!

"Join in the fun and frivolity at our annual Fifties fair. This day-long event, now in its 13th year, is set against the backdrop of Rose Seidler House, one of the finest examples of mid-century modernist architecture in Australia, built by Harry Seidler for his parents, Max and Rose. The house will be open for inspection throughout the day. "

I lurve 50's fair day - and if you can get to Turramurra Train Station there is a free shuttle bus! Look for my in my 50's inspired outfit (ok, havent decided what to wear yet hehe).

Past pics... (I made my outfit (including handbag) and my ex's tattoo print bowling shirt)

Be greatful for the good things in life...

You know when you have a weekend thats not hugely exciting or awesome, but its perfect none the less?
I had one of those!

The Boi started my day on Saturday with porridge and stewed rhubarb (my favourite) and we hung out and went shopping. SSK in the afternoon, and it was really good to see some people I havent seen for a while.

That night we went to a friends house for a dinner party (everything vegetarian!) and stayed on til midnight just hanging with people. Had a few too many glasses of wine I think.

Sunday, sleep in, do some housework and then off to the Courthouse SnB in the arvo. Really capped off a good weekend. Twas Kerry, Andrew and myself, and we had a really relaxing afternoon discussing the meaning of life and laceweight. The weather was lovely too - and I left in one of the best moods I've had for ages (endlessly pre-mens at the moment).

I've had a lace sock on my mind and the only way to appease the Knitting Gods was to cast on for it (you would think the other 8 Forms of Worship (WIPs) that i'm working on would be enough).
So here is my lace sock, hopefully to be in the Summer issue of Creative Knitting...

Overseas adoptions to be blocked for gay couples

TheFederal Government is moving to stop gay couples from adopting children from overseas with legislation that would deny the children visas.
More here......

The reason for John Howard wanting it blocked -"Children ideally should be brought up by a mother and a father who are married. That's the ideal."

Alright - so if you're not married or hetero, dont even THINK about having children... This makes me so mad. I know heaps of gay couples, and wish that I was brought up in a household as loving, caring and supportive as theirs.
It really sickens me that the Government is trying to close the loop-holes to allow GLBTQ folk the same rights as everyone else.
What next? We all have to wear a pink triangle on our jacket pocket? Oops, thats already been done....
What about obese adoption? Should people be allowed to adopt if they are obese? Or anorexic? Or a Satanist? Or a single parent? Or a redneck? Or a Liberal voter?

Conversely, California promotes GLBTQ for carers and parents. Apparently we are loving and caring people - who knew???

Further to my adventure

Here is my google map...

Starting in the middle (Delhi); then north to Shimla; south east to Rishikesh, Lucknow, Varanasi; west to Agra and then a loop of Rajasthan. Finally back to Delhi.

Went out to dinner with some of the Boi's ashram people, who then decided to fill me with stories of how sick India made them. Great.
Apparently some people get there and get really ill on the first day, and dont get better until they leave (there's quite a bit of pollution). Le Sigh. Immune Boost tablets here I come!

Knitting Content:
After a friend asked me a year ago to knit her some socks, I thought I better start. Just basic ribbed ones, using the Jawoll self stripe in grey/white/black. Gotta love the little reel of reinforcing thread they include too - it matches the self striped pattern.
