FO: Booties and baby hat

I do love it when The Boi asks me to knit for hym - even when it is baby knitting...

The booties are from Patons Knitting Booklet, C.16 and the hat is based on the Goosebery Hat. I spoke to ACS about sharing the booties pattern, so I put it up on Ravelry.

The yarn is Filatura Di Crosa Zarina.

Sigh. It looks as though The Boi and I wont be going to Inquisition this year either - no volunteer work is available (unusual!) unless we work coat check (and after last year, NO THANKS!). At least I dont have to panic and make a rushed out fit, but it is a shame.
Gurlesque is on the same night, so we might have to head on over to that instead.

The Knitting Gods doth frown upon me...

After knitting 7 inches of the front on my Refined Aran Cardigan, I noticed something unusual about my cable needle.
You see, when I need 2 sizes of needles for my project (i.e 3.5mms for the ribbing, 3.75mm for the body), I use one of the 'spares' as my cable needle - they are KnitPicks interchangables.

And i've just noticed the cable needle I have been using was 3.75mm.... which means the needles i'm using for the body are 3.5mm.... So I checked the gauge and its off too.

The Boi took great delight in telling me I have to frogg it.

A Finished Object!

It is a knitting blog! Really!

Pattern: Two-Tone Shrug, from Fitted Knits
Yarn: Malabrigo, Pearl Ten. Two and a bit skeins.
.

Super easy! It really was. The pattern was a bit confusing when selecting a size (I chose the 15inch size across my shoulders, ending up knitting the 16inch, but should have made the 17 inch) but was a quick and easy knit.
.
Malabrigo is so delicious, I want pyjamas knitted out of it (not practical I know). The Boi also said he liked it which is a rare complement from hym - normally he says "That looks like you put in a lot of effort" or "Great stitch definition".

Tilta Swift

Want a swift but dont want to pay $60+??
This blog has great instructions for making one out of coathangers, a cardboard box and a lazy susan...

Super Rudd...

GetUp is looking for donations to put this billboard outside PM Rudd's house, to push him to implement changes this budget overlooked.

(OK, I admit, part of me just donated cos its a Super Rudd billboard, which I think is hilarious, and I love the idea that he would see it everyday).

Swallowtail story...

Nine months ago I cast on for the Swallowtail Shawl, for Rishi at Satyananda Ashram.
She's always been really friendly to me when I've gone up there (kicking and screaming sometimes), so when I heard she wasnt feeling well I wanted to make her something.
I took the shawl up there but had to give it to her husband to pass on, and never heard anything since.

The Boi just spotted her wearing it around the Ashram - she told him she loves it. She wears it often, and gets lots of compliments when she wears it around Sydney.

Excellent - I hate not knowing whether people like something or not.

Wow - I won something!

Pieknits (whom I love) had a competition on her blog to celebrate its 3 year anniversary - and I won! Its a skein of Trekking Handart, in a lovely blue colourway (destined to become a pair of socks for The Boi no doubt).

I've always wanted to get some Trekking, and winning some makes it doubly great. Thanks Jennifer!

And now for some knitting content.

Well, I think its been lacking somewhat.
Here's the giant yarn balls I got for my 'charity' knitting.

The purply-red is for some mittens (meant for the Tibetan refugee nuns in Tso Pema - hi Chu-ie Lama!), and the orange is for some 8ply socks I said I would knit for the little old Swamis at Satyananda Ashram.
All posed nicely on my wool shawl* that I got in Rishikesh (it was made in an Ashram co-op and even though its not black with red skulls, I love it).

Is it just me or is the purple yarn mooning?
* that shawl saved me so many times in India - The Boi wrapped it around me when I was being sick over the edge of the train station platform; i used it as a pillow on the train; i wrapped it around myself with flair when going into up-market restaurants - it was great!

And here's a not-so great photo of Juno Regina.

I really wanted to finish it in time for this winter, but my sister's wedding shawl is a hard slog. The 55 row repeat is killing me, but it looks awesome. All 10cm of it hehe.
.
The Boi and I are going to Thailand for a couple of weeks in August, so i'll finish it off over there. Can anyone else see me sitting in a chair on the beach, Pina Colada in one hand and a tangled mess in the other???
.
The Boi is going for a tattoo-school course, i'm really proud of hym. He is so creative, and hys drawing skills are fantastic - I cant wait to be a canvas! Hy's also persnickety enough to make sure everything is perfect, just what you want in a tattoo artiste!
.
On other Boi news, hy is at the Ashram for 5 days or so, leaving me time to potter around and do stuff i've been putting off (clear out my stash room).

Some people dont get it...

Man - those pro-china-Olympic crazies!
Yes I am a leftist liberal - thanks for stating the obvious. So i'm gonna keep on doing my leftist liberal lesbian thing (say that 10 times really fast) and you can just bite me.
Little comments on my blog will just get deleted, and sorry but your rants will not change the way I feel about China holding the olympics (or the whole Tibet issue).

Maybe since you value your opinion so much you should let me have mine, or better yet, challenge your own government to allow free speech for everyone...

(what I dont get is why the crazies leave their comments in posts that have nothing to do with the Olympics, i.e. in the 'Donate money to India' post ??? I guess being an overworked spambot, they just leave comments on the first post they find )
