Big News! And a skirt.

I'm actually, for real, getting a decent camera for my birthday! (Its a Canon S95 for anyone who's interested).
Soon I won't have to take photos on my iPhone...

But for the moment, here is what I wore for my birthday on Saturday.

Skirt: me, Top: Portmans, Shoes: Kmart?, Bag: Lux De
Ville, Brooch: Etsy, Bracelet: Retrospec'd

I made the skirt a year ago from a lovely cotton sateen from Spotlight, using my favourite standby Box Pleat Skirt pattern, and this is probably the first time i've really worn it out.

Jakk took me window shopping in the city, and then out for Mexican with friends in Newtown. Nom!

Ooh la la Pin-Up Sew-Along

Ooh - did anyone see that Anna is having a Pin-Up Sew Along on her blog?

She's just finished making the French Corset Pattern, and it looks fab! I'm just waiting for it to be re-stocked in her Etsy shop so I can grab a copy. It looks great for those New Look/1950s styles.

Happy Valentine's Day

Vintage card - Etsy
I'd like to say that Valentine's Day is a commerical construct, but deep down i'm tragic romantic!
This is the card I got for Jakk, and I wanted to share with you - "Don't Muff this Fur the love o' me". Not sure what it means, but it says Muff which warms my queer heart (and cracks me up).

All it says on the back is "From Amy, 1930". I wonder what happened to Amy and her beau.

For those who arnt really into Valentine's Day, this is for you instead...

Sporty Tam in Gimp, c. 1936

Today's free vintage knitting pattern is a crochet hat for a pleasant change.

This januty tam is from Crochet with Gimp, published in 1936, in Canada.
Gimp is still available online, but a good strong fingering weight cotton (maybe mercerised) would work too.

Is it just me, or does the model look like Reese Witherspoon?
