Photos and Outfits from 'Summer Bride', 1954

Is anyone planning a 1950s wedding?

I was very lucky to get my hands (briefly) on a 1950s Bridal magazine and rushed off some quick scans of the nicest pages to share with you.

Presenting, Summer Bride 1954

The dresses in this magazine are gorgeous!

The magazine is absolutely filled with bride-to-be advertisements. Some very relevant....

Some, not so much! (I think this advertiser is clutching at straws)

And suggestions for what to wear on your 1950s Honeymoon.

I would love to get married again in Australia - on the day it's made legal. I know it's probably a long way off the way the political climate is at the moment, but a girl can dream right?

The full set of images are here on Flickr, I hope you enjoy them!

I had a 50's style wedding, but I wore a 50s light pink prom dress because 50s wedding dress were quite impossible to find with a L size...

i will wear a late 40s/early 50s lace tee dress in dark creme at my wedding in two weeks ;)
sadly i found in the old lace a couple of holes near the seams of the bodice. yesterday i tried my best to fix it and luckily i did good. this is what it means to get married in 60 year old dresses...

lovely post.

So very, very lovely! When my darling husband and I were married (nine years ago this October), we had a super small civil ceremony and I didn't even wear a wedding dress. I loved that day and don't mind at all that I didn't have a more traditional wedding, but sometimes we both discuss how much we'd love to have a vow renewal ceremony that's more akin to said traditional wedding. If that ever happens, you bet your bottom dollar that I'll be going vintage all the way - especially with my dress.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful images - they really do set the heart aflutter.
